Ed Komenda writes about Las Vegas for the Reno Gazette Journal and USA Today Network. As a staff writer at the Las Vegas Sun, he wrote about casinos, labor, real estate, crime, technology and iconic Nevada characters, including Zappos magnate Tony Hsieh and American folk rebel Cliven Bundy. He won a Best of the West award for a story profiling the militiamen who flocked to the desert to stand alongside Bundy as his loyal fighting brigade. The Nevada Press Association also recognized him as a "Journalist of Merit." Ed joined the RGJ from the Northwest Herald, a scrappy family-owned newspaper an hour outside Chicago. As a senior reporter, he served as a community watchdog, probing township government and delivering dispatches about McHenry County politics. After graduating from Western Illinois University, Ed spent several years traveling the country, working at newspapers in Pennsylvania and South Florida.
