"I'm feeling OK; I'm a little tired because I didn't sleep much last night. My temperature is fine. I don't have a fever," Elba said before sharing that he has asthma, which puts him in a higher risk category.
"I have a respiratory issue, and I've had asthma all my life, so catching corona was definitely not on my bucket list at all," Elba said. "But even my asthma is OK. I don't feel any restriction with my breathing or my lungs. I haven't been coughing too much, I generally feel OK."
A user asked the "Fast & Furious" star if he was worried.
"Yes, of course I'm worried. I'm worried about having the virus, I'm worried about having asthma and how that could make things really complicated for me very quickly," Elba said. "I'm really worried about what's going on in the world, if I'm honest. I'm worried about how we're dealing with it."
Elba revealed on Twitter Monday that he had tested positive for coronavirus.
"This morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I feel OK, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus," the actor captioned a video announcement. "Stay 真人百家家乐官网网站home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing 👊🏾👊🏾 No panic."
In the video, Elba, 47, explains he got tested after realizing he was exposed to someone who had also tested positive.
Days before announcing his diagnosis, Elba attended a WE Day charity event in London. While there, he posed for a photo with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife. She tested positive for coronavirus Th.
Although Elba didn't identify the person he came into contact with, he said he self-quarantined and "got a test immediately" after finding out about the unnamed person's results.
"It sucks," Elba admitted. "Look, this is serious. Now's the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands. Beyond that, there are people out there who aren't showing symptoms and that could easily spread it. So now's a real time to be really vigilant about washing your hands and keeping your distance."
Elba's announcement that he had tested positive triggered the self-suspension of business at a popular musical instrument supply store in Santa Fe where the actor last week had shopped and posed briefly with staff for pictures. Elba was scheduled to participate in the production in New Mexico of a western-themed movie.
Randy Cook, co-owner of The Candyman Strings & Things, said the store weeks ago started a rigorous, hourly cleaning and canceled weekend gatherings including a ukulele club after the first infections appeared within the state — but it wasn't enough.
By Monday evening, another screen star had posted to social media about his positive coronavirus test. Kristofer Hivju, 41, the actor best known for embodying the renowned warrior (and admirer of Brienne of Tarth) Tormund Giantsbane, wrote on an Instagram post from Norway, "Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus."
In a caption of a photo of himself and wife Gry Molvær Hivju, he continued: "My (family) and I are self-isolating at 真人百家家乐官网网站home for as long as it takes. We are in good health - I only have mild symptoms of a cold."
Elba said his wife, Sabrina, who was in the video alongside him, had not yet been tested.
"She's doing OK," he added. "We've told our families, they're very supportive. We've told our colleagues. Transparency is probably the best thing for this right now. If you're feeling ill or feel like you should be tested or you've been exposed, do something about it. It's really important."
He continued, "We live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it. It's been (expletive), but now's the time for solidarity. Now's the time for thinking about each other. There's so many people whose lives have been affected."
Hivju also emphasized the fact that people should be looking to protect themselves and others.
"Please visit your country's Center for Disease Control's website, and follow the regulations for staying safe and protecting not just yourselves, but our entire community, and especially those at risk like the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions," he wrote.
Elba and Hivju are not the only celebrities to test positive for the virus. Tom Hanks revealed last week he and wife Rita Wilson are also quarantined with the illness.
