Robbie's "Pirates" will feature new characters and won't be a spinoff of the Johnny Depp movies that made a $4.5 billion treasure trove for Disney beginning with the original 2003 film based on the theme-park ride.

Hodson, who also wrote the "Transformers" film "Bumblebee," is the writer on the upcoming "The Flash" movie that might bring Michael Keaton's Batman back into the DC fold, while Robbie will next reprise her role as Harley in James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad" sequel (in theaters Aug. 6. 2021).
