Jeff Bezos shares angry customer emails over support of Black Lives Matter, but says position 'won't change'

If you visit Amazon's website right now, you'll notice a banner that reads "Black lives matter" to show "solidarity with the Black community."
That message has drawn several emails from customers angry over the company's support, said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in a post on Instagram.
On Sunday, Bezos shared one message from a person named "Dave" containing expletives and the use of racial slurs that blasted the company for supporting Black Lives Matter.
"This sort of hate shouldn’t be allowed to hide in the shadows," wrote Bezos. "It’s important to make it visible. This is just one example of the problem."
Bezos also had a final message for Dave: "You’re the kind of customer I’m happy to lose."

Bezos said the message was one of several "sickening" responses to a separate post published Saturday which featured another email from a customer who said they found the banner for Black Lives Matter "disturbing."
"I support this movement we see happening all around us, and my stance won't change," Bezos wrote in an email responding to the customer.
Brands and companies including Amazon have stepped forward in support of Black Lives Matter following the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.
The companies have shared messages condemning systemic racism and seeking changes. Last week, Apple published a letter on its website from CEO Tim Cook stating the company "must do more" to promote diversity and fight racism.
But tech companies including Amazon and Apple have been questioned for the lack of diversity in their workplaces. At Amazon, more than 26% of its global workforce is black, but at the managerial level, it's only 8.3%. At Apple, according to its 2018 diversity data, only 9% of its employees are black.
Earlier this year, as the coronavirus pandemic locked down the US economy, Amazon was criticized for attempting to smear the organizer of an employee walkout over safety concerns.
