For a limited time, you can snag the brand-new Amazon Kindle and Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2019) on sale for up to $35 off, depending on which model you choose. These are two of the best Kindles we've ever tested but there are pros and cons to each version.

Here's what you need to know: If you're new to the e-reader life, the Amazon Kindle (2019) is likely the way to go. Ordinarily priced at $89.99, it has dropped to $64.99 for an overall savings of $25—one of the lowest price we've ever seen for this impressive tablet. It boasts a 4 gigabyte (GB) storage capacity and comes with four built-in, fully adjustable LED lights, which is fantastic if you're a night reader. More than 12,000 reviewers gave it top marks, noting that it's got a nice display resolution and is lightweight for travel.

In our tests, we did notice that this Kindle has raised bezels, which make swiping between pages more difficult than in more sophisticated Kindles like the Paperwhite (which we'll get to later). What that means is that it may act as a collection point for dust, sand and other debris, as our testers soon discovered. It's not a significant stumbling block, but it's something to be mindful of before you buy.

However, there's a special offer on this base-line Kindle, wherein you can get three months free of Kindle Unlimited for no additional fee in addition to its impressive markdown. This service will give you access to more than one million book titles and audiobooks, and you can use it from any device (including non-Kindles). It's usually $9.99 per month, so that's an extra savings of about $30 in total.

However, if it's the best of the best that you want, this deal on the Kindle Paperwhite (2019) is truly the one to beat. Right now, you can get it for $99.99 to $124.99, with prices varying based on the storage option you select. As the 8 GB and 32 GB retail for $129.99 and $159.99, respectively, this means you'll be saving up to $35 because of this discount.

The 2019 Paperwhite is actually an upgrade on our current favorite Kindle, the 2018 model (we're in the process of adjusting our ranking accordingly). There's a lot to swoon for here if you're a book lover, such as the fact that it comes with five built-in LED lights, making visibility scarcely an issue. Designed to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, this one is still waterproof (the 2018 model was the first Paperwhite to include this feature). It also allows you to download Audible content for playback via a Bluetooth speaker or headphones. Additionally, this doesn't have the raised bezel issue that was pointed out as an issue with the base-level Kindle (2019), however.

Suddenly, a summer that was looking pretty lackluster on account of social distancing measures just got a whole lot more fulfilling, as these new Kindles will make for a great way to jumpstart your reading goals with new vigor—and save a few extra bucks while you're at it.
